This barn quilt is an original design chosen as the winner of the 2025 Deep Creek Lake 100th Anniversary Barn Quilt Design Contest! The beautiful design was created by Melissa Nash, who pieced and quilted the design as her entry in the contest.
The block was painted and mounted in 2025 at the Deep Creek Discovery Center with the assistance of the Deep Creek State Park Volunteers.
While there during open hours, please check out the Discovery Center! It has wonderful educational displays (upstairs and downstairs) as well as the cutest little gift shop! Watch their website and social media for special events at the aviary!
Location:
From Rt. 219 in Thayerville between McHenry and Oakland, turn onto Glendale Road for 1.1 miles. At the end of the bridge, turn left onto State Park Road for .8 miles. Turn left across the bridge to stay on State Park Road for .2 miles. Enter the Discovery center parking lot on the left and go to the lower level. The barn quilt is on the right side of the building.
