A true friend to the Barn Quilt Association of Garrett County, Donna Sue Groves first conceived the barn quilt project in Ohio, as a tribute to her mother, Maxine, an avid quilter.
After a long and valiant battle, Donna Sue finally succumbed to cancer in the fall of 2021. The world lost a true hero and kind soul.

Another documentary featuring Donna Sue: Pieced Together: A Documentary is from Director/Producer Julianne Donofrio. “The film tells the story of how one woman’s love for her mother changed the American landscape – and saved her life. ” View a snippet of the video here.
Donna Sue came to Garrett County in April 2008 to share her story with our volunteers. She was a delightful speaker, often making the audience laugh (and sometimes cry), all the while learning from her vast experience.
Donna Sue has offered her help as our project progresses, and has been a wealth of information as we struggle through our first year as a new organization.
